Knowing Jesus
Throughout this quarter children will study the life of Jesus.
The first unit, The Coming of the Promised Savior, begins with John the Baptist. Children learn that God kept his promise to his people when he sent the prophet to prepare the way of the Lord. They discover that Mary was chosen to be the mother of the Savior, and—like the shepherds of old—the children praise God for the birth of Jesus, the Son of God and promised Savior. Finally, they find out that wise men worshiped Jesus, the Savior-King sent by God.
In the second unit, Growing in Trusting Jesus, children learn Jesus grew from infancy to manhood, and God was with him in a special way. Jesus was tempted by Satan, just as we are, but did not sin. They learn Jesus showed great love and care for those around him, especially children. Jesus not only pointed the way to God the Father and revealed that he was the Savior-Friend, but he also died on the cross so that the sins of his people could be forgiven.
In the third unit, children are encouraged to respond to the love of Jesus by Believing in the Power of God’s Son. They discover that Jesus has power to give life. He has power over sickness and sin. Indeed, he has power over all things. Children learn they can trust their powerful Savior-Lord to meet all their needs and help them in all of life’s circumstances. Like the psalmist, they can gladly say: “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped” (Psalm 28:7a).
