Loving Jesus

The theme of Winter 1 quarter is Loving Jesus.

In the first unit, Believing in the Promised Savior, children learn that love comes from God, and that he loved us first. Because of his great love for his people, he sent his Son, Jesus, to save us from our sins. Children will be challenged to trust the Savior by remembering, listening, obeying, and seeing—just as Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds did. Children will find out who Jesus is by studying important names of the Savior.

The second unit, Trusting in Christ for Salvation, focuses on repentance, faith and the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the child of God. Younger Elementary students learn that it is the Holy Spirit who changes the heart in order for someone to repent, believe, and live a life of obedience.

The third unit, Showing Love for the Lord Jesus, teaches children concrete ways to express responsive hearts for what the Lord has done for them. They can openly praise and thank him, they can give him their offerings and time, and they can tell others about him. Children learn that they respond to the Lord Jesus out of the abundance he has given them.

In the final unit, Knowing God Loves Us, children focus on the Savior’s love for his people by his death on the cross and his resurrection. They learn that Jesus was willing to pay for the sins of his people, and that God has justified us—forgiven us and declared us righteous.

Children will be challenged to love the risen, sovereign, glorious Lord because he has called his people to himself and revealed who he is in his Word. You have a wonderful opportunity to help your children understand what it means to love Jesus—to praise him, believe his Word, follow his commands, and show his love to others.
