Living in God's Family

Welcome to the winter quarter of "Living in God's Family." Our families are important to us. We live and grow in the context of parents, siblings, adopted, extended and blended family groups. Over the next several weeks, your preschoolers will learn what it means to belong to the most special family of all—the family of God.

In the first unit, Lessons 1–5, you will teach the children what it means to be a child of God. They will learn that God sent his Son, Jesus, to be the Savior. God draws his people into his family, making it possible for them to trust in Jesus for forgiveness of sins. Preschoolers will discover that Jesus cares for God's people. Your learners will also find out that they need the help of the Holy Spirit to live in God's family. God's Spirit enables them to trust in Jesus and obey his teachings. They will be taught that God's children pray to him, praise him, ask for forgiveness and ask for the things they need.

In the second unit of study, Lessons 6–13, children will explore what it means to grow in God’s family. Children will learn that God wants his people to love him above all else, and they are to show their love for him by loving others. Preschoolers will find out that growing in God's family means forgiving others, serving others, listening to God's Word and doing what it says, and growing in trust and obedience.

Through Bible stories, parables and teachings of Jesus, children will be taught about God’s great love in a way that they can understand. They will learn that his love is so great that he calls them his children, making them part of his covenant family. With our heavenly Father's blessing, may these lessons help each child say, "I am God's child because I trust Jesus." And may they pray, "Lord, please keep me growing in trust and obedience."
