God Keeps His Promises

In the Summer quarter children will find out that God’s promises are woven throughout his Word, the Bible. Through the stories they hear, they will learn about God’s love and faithfulness to his children.

Unit 1emphasizes God’s Promise of Redemption. In the first two lessonschildren will discover that God promised Adam and Eve a Savior. Later on, when God promised Noah that a flood never again would destroy the earth, God was ensuring that earthly life would continue until the Savior redeemed it.

Unit 2 concentrates on God’s Promise of Blessing. Learners will find out that Abraham responded to the call of God with trusting obedience. As the children learn about the elderly patriarch and his family, they will discover God’s unfolding covenant plan for his people and their faithful response to his promises.

Unit 3 calls attention to God’s Promise of Faithfulness. These lessons highlight Jacob and his family, and how God kept his promise to be with them, preserve them, and make them into a great nation.

Unit 4 focuses on God’s Promise of Deliverance. Children will learn about Samuel the prophet, his trust in God, and his obedience to his voice. They will find out about David and his heart of faith in God. They will learn God was with David, giving him all he needed to deliver God’s people from their enemies and become a good king. God promised that the Savior would be born into David’s family, and David humbly and thankfully accepted God’s promise in faith.

The final lesson makes up Unit 5, God’s Promise of a Savior. It presents the glorious truth that God kept his promise to Adam and Eve and others by sending Jesus, the Savior, to redeem his people. At just the right time, God sent his Son to be born. And just as God promised, he came forth from the line of Abraham and David. Jesus was the fulfillment of God’s promise; he came to restore fellowship with God by offering himself as a sacrifice for the sins of his people.

As you teach each lesson, you will emphasize to your young learners that God always keeps his promises. And with God’s blessing, may each child be ready to pray: “Lord, I believe what you say to me in the Bible. Thank you for keeping your promises. Help me to trust and obey you.”
