Worshiping God
The Fall 1 quarter is titled Worshiping God. As students learn to “feed” on God’s Word, they will discover a deepening treasure that will last a lifetime.
The first unit focuses on what worship is and why we worship. Students learn that our heavenly Father shows us how wonderful he is, and we respond with hearts full of praise. Our holy God welcomes our worship when we come through his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
In the second unit students begin to learn how we worship, namely through prayer. Students discover the model for prayer that Jesus gave his disciples. The Lord’s Prayer reveals that Jesus gave us a pattern of talking to God that includes approaching him in a personal, trusting way, like a child with arms outstretched. The Lord’s Prayer sums up the essential parts of all prayer, and as students learn to pray like Jesus did, they will discover that they can freely go to their heavenly Father with their praise, thanks, and needs.
The third unit highlights the remaining elements of corporate worship—singing, the reading and teaching of Scripture, giving of gifts, confessions of faith, the sacraments, and the benediction—to help students understand what takes place when we worship God together.
As students study God’s Word together this quarter you have a wonderful opportunity to help them discover and understand what worship is, and lead them in worshiping our great covenant God.
