Volume 2 (Q14 - Q28)

Welcome to Volume 2 of Beginning Kids’ Quest! Using biblical accounts of God’s work in the world to help the children understand God’s character and other abstract theological truths, this second volume covers questions 14–28 of First Catechism. Music, games, art, written activities, and a lot of repetition reinforce the teaching and help children memorize answers to the questions.

Volume 2 is divided into three units of four lessons each. The first unit, Scripture, focuses on God’s written Word, the Bible. Children learn that God gave us his Word to teach us how to love and obey him. By the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the men whom God chose to write the Bible wrote what he wanted them to write. Since God always tells the truth, everything the Bible says is true.

In the second unit, Adam and Eve, children learn that God created our first parents in his own image and gave them souls that will last forever. This distinguished them from the animals and contradicts the theory of evolution. Adam and Eve were holy and happy because God created them with hearts that loved and obeyed him perfectly and they lived in a sinless world.

In the third unit, Covenant, children are taught that God also set up a covenant relationship with Adam. He required Adam to obey him perfectly and promised to reward him with life if he obeyed and punish him with death if he disobeyed. Though this unit ends on a sad note—Adam sinned against God—the children learn that God loved Adam and Eve so much that he promised to send a Savior. God kept his promise when he sent Jesus.

“God keeps his promises” is a theme that runs throughout this volume of Beginning Kids’ Quest. God has promised to love us, to be with us, and to give us everything we need. He met our greatest need when he gave his only Son to pay for our sins and purchase everlasting life for us. Pray for those you teach, asking God to bring them to faith in Christ at an early age.
