Kids' Quest Catechism Club classes

It's time to begin planning next year's Kids' Quest Catechism Club. We've received enthusiastic feedback from those who have used the material this first year. Kids' Quest was designed to meet the request of many Children's Directors for a school-year catechism program (September to May/June) that taught First Catechism. However, many churches have customized the program to fit their own children and church schedule needs. Perhaps you can use some of the following ideas from current users:

Useful Settings

  • Wednesday night
  • Sunday night
  • Homeschool
  • Morning: Mother's Day Out
  • Women's Bible study
  • Family devotions
  • Children's church

Program Planning

  • If your church only did Beginning Kids' Quest this year, add Elementary Kids' Quest for those who completed Beginning Kids' Quest and elementary-age children. Continue Beginning Kids' Quest for four and five year olds who did not participate this year.
  • Plan to do each department for a certain age group every year. For example, do Beginning Kids' Quest for all 1st graders and Elementary Kids' Quest for all 2nd graders each year, so that all the children in your church will go through both departments. Because the Elementary Kids' Quest program covers so many questions each week, this will give the Beginning students a headstart on the memory work in Elementary.
  • Extend the Elementary Kids' Quest program to cover a whole year instead of the school year by adding a review week every other week, after every four lessons, or after memorizing 20 questions.
  • Use one volume of Kids' Quest per year, integrating it with ongoing programs in the Christian Education department.
  • Use one volume each summer until the three volumes are completed, then beginning the cycle again.

Reward Systems

  • Stickers: given every week for attendance, successful recitation, efforts in memorizing, or for class participation.
  • Celebration party every four weeks for both departments
  • Verbal praise and a cup of hot chocolate each week
  • Written recognition in church newsletter
  • Ribbons or certificates
  • Treasure box with inexpensive toys, pens, notepads
  • Kids' Quest bucks to spend in bi-annual store
  • T-shirt or CD at end of each volume
  • End of year: picnic and horseback riding
  • Successful completion and memorization: Bible with name engraved
